This is one of the most common houseplants in the world, mainly due to its tolerance of neglect.
It is native to East Africa where it normally flowers, but for the rest of us we rarely see it flower as a houseplant… not that we are missing out on anything as its flowers are quite ugly.
Although this plant loves sunny places (but out of direct sunlight), it also tolerates low light conditions. It should be watered twice a month when the top layer of soil is dry. To keep the leaves shiny, wipe the leaves with a damp cloth every now and then. It is a good air purifier, so besides its aesthetic function it also has a useful function in your house.
To cats, dogs and children it can cause discomfort if accidentally eaten. Care should also be taken when repotting as root juices can cause skin irritation, so wearing of gloves is recommended.
If you manage to somehow kill a ZZ, maybe stick with plastic plants.
