Wandering Jew - lat. Tradescantia zebrina

For anyone looking to add a little color among their indoor and outdoor plants, as a first choice you should consider this unique creeper. It has a beautiful purple color with greenish and gray patterns, and is very easy to maintain. It originates from Mexico and Guatemala. As a houseplant, it likes rooms with indirect sun because the brighter the light in the room, the more intense is the purple color of the leaves, while in rooms with less light the leaves become more greenish. If it is planted outdoors, it should be kept in the shade and care should be taken that the temperature does not fall below 10 ⁰C. It should be watered regularly, but make sure that the soil dries between watering.

What makes this plant interesting to me is that the probability that its cuttings will take root is 100%. You just need to cut a piece of it, put it in water or moist soil and wait for it to take root after a few days. The genus Tradescantia was named in honor of father and son John Tradescant who were botanists and gardeners for King Charles I of England. It is mildly toxic to pets. As for diseases and pests, it is quite resistant to them, but you should still watch out for aphids and vine weevils.
