Rarely can you find a plant more often in households than the Peace Lily. NASA has even placed it in the top 10 air purifiers among houseplants.
Natural habitats of about 40 species of Peace Lilies are tropic areas of SE Asia and North and South America.
This plant loves sunny locations but out of direct sunlight. It should be watered regularly, not allowing the soil to dry out completely. It can bloom twice a year, with the flowers being located on a stalk surrounded by a white bract.
Unfortunately it is poisonous to humans and pets (in case ingested). The plant contains calcium oxalates which irritates the mouth and stomach, and since it immediately causes a reaction, dogs and cats generally stop biting the plant after the first bite.
As for diseases, it is not susceptible like other plants, and mealybugs and spider mites can be removed by occasionally spraying or showering the plant with water.
The Peace Lilly is an ideal plant for beginners. The best rooms to keep this plant are the bedroom and living room.
