Blue Star Fern - lat. Phlebodium aureum

An epiphyte of an unusual appearance, this fern has leaves which are shaped like fingers. Due to its bold, blue-green foliage, it contrasts well with other houseplants.

It is native to the tropical forests of South America, which explains why it needs humidity. Consequently it is an ideal plant for bathrooms and kitchens although it also thrives in rooms with lower humidity on the condition that it is watered more often.

In terms of orientation and light, it is recommended to place the plant near the north window. If this is not possible, make sure the plant in a bright place but away from direct sunlight, at least 1 m from any window. The Blue Star Fern grows best in a mixture of orchid substrates as well as other well-draining substrates. It makes an awesome terrarium plant when it's still small.

This fern is recommended for beginners because it is quite easy to maintain. It's also recommended for households with small children and pets due to its non-toxic nature.
